Six state teams are invited to send teams to compete in this tournament. Each team consists of 5 players and 1 alternate: 3 dan players, 2 kyu players, and one alternate player between 5k and 4d. Each team of 5 will face each other head to head. The team with 3 or more wins against the opposing team in a given round is the winner of that round.
